Summer Sunset Engagement Photos at Presidio and Marin Headlands in San Francisco, California
I spent a week out in California in May photographing a wedding in Carmel, and then drove over to San Francisco to photograph Greta & Francesco’s engagement session! They have been living there the last few years for work but will be getting married in their hometown of St. Louis Missouri in 2024!
I’ve been really taking a different approach to engagement sessions lately and thought I would share what’s been working for me and what’s not been working. Lately I’ve been discussing how I really feel passionately about my relationships with my clients not feeling transactional. I’ve realized after doing this for five years that some of my best work that feels truly organic, candid and intentional comes from not being rushed and really getting to know my couples. If my couples are not local, I always like to hop on a call with my clients so we can get to know each other, and I can explain my process of how I love to document in a photojournalistic and candid way. I've found I'm able to get more creative and fine tune how to pose and work with couples when I know them better. My engagement sessions are more like date nights with me! We usually will start off by going somewhere and getting a cocktail or coffee, running around town together, me documenting how you interact with each other in your natural environments and ending the evening off with a beautiful sunset on an overlook or beautiful soft field. After, I love going to dinner and just getting to hang out with my couples and that’s exactly what we did here together!
For Francesco and Greta’s engagements, we started off in their home that’s been incredibly special for them just hanging out and talking - it’s always helpful to be and start in a place where couples feel their most comfortable. After we went to some of their favorite streets and places around town like Nob Hill, and Presidio! If you haven’t been to Presidio make sure you try to get over there to see all the beautiful flowers and the overlook of the Golden Gate Bridge! We hiked the hills, and honestly just went sight seeing around the city and it was so much fun! It’s so nice to have the time to get creative! We finished off the session at Marin Headlands which is this beautiful beach area with a cliffside overlook overflowing with wildflowers! After we went to dinner and toasted to a successful day of documenting their love and story!
